Dearest students,
It is perhaps one of the most difficult things to do and also a constant struggle. Our spirit is very eager to understand and absorb what is being taught in front by our lecturers, yet our flesh is so weak that we feel that we are slowly but surely drifting into another realm, to our dreamland. Hence, there are actually a few things that we can actually do in order to stay awake in class during lessons. We should pay attention to what we eat, what we do in class and also how we lead our lives after classes.
In order to stay awake in class, we must pay attention to our diet. Before class, it is crucial to have a balanced meal so that we are not tired and hungry, for instance, breakfast before morning classes cannot be over-emphasized. Moreover, as the saying goes, a healthy mind in a healthy body, so it is crucial for us to watch what we eat, eating a balanced diet guided by the food pyramid and avoiding food which can make us feel tired or weigh us down. In addition we can also have some caffeinated drinks before class, for instance coffee or tea as the caffeine in these beverages can help us to remain alert during class later. Moreover, energy booster drinks, such as Red Bull or essence of chicken can also help boost our energy level and help us to remain awake during class. In addition, taking supplements and also vitamins can also improve our overall well-being.
Nonetheless, what we do in class determines whether we will remain awake or otherwise. We must make sure we sit at the right places. Sitting in front is wise because we are under the direct gaze of the teacher, and there will be constant eye contact; hence, there would not be any opportunity to day dream or drift away. Furthermore, we should actively participate in class during any activities or when the teachers ask questions as being mentally alert and involved would help us to be enthusiastic and upbeat in class. Lastly, it also helps to take down important notes while the lecturer is explaining a lesson. This is because active listening, concentrating and understanding what is being expounded will help us to overcome drowsiness in class.
Lastly, how we lead our lives after class can also affect us in class. We need to make sure we lead a healthy lifestyle by having adequate rest and sleep so that we do not have a lot of sleep debt and in the end, feel lethargic and tired during classes. Exercising is also crucial as it wakes our body up and also helps our brain to focus better. In addition, it will also be good for us to prepare for the next class earlier. We should look at the syllabus and read through the material and try to get the overall picture of what will be taught in class the next day. By doing this we are ready for class and would be able to understand better when the lecturer explains the lesson and would not be bored and sleepy in class.
Hence, by taking all these steps, we can be sure that we can stay mentally sharp and alert in class without falling asleep and missing out on important points and ruining our reputation in class. As a result, we can really benefit from every class and are not merely wasting our time and money by dozing off in class.
